The Entity Search feature is currently in beta.

Use the Playground to identify and locate specific persons in your video content without writing code. You can search for players in sports footage, track characters in movies, or locate persons in security footage.

After completing the tasks in this guide, you’ll be able to:

Create and manage entity collections through the Playground.
Add entities you want to identify by uploading reference images.
Search for specific entities in your video content using simple queries.

Note

The platform automatically creates a sample entity collection when you create your account. Users on the Free plan can have a total of one entity collection with up to fifteen entities. The default collection is included in this limit. To create more collections, upgrade to the Developer plan. For instructions, see the Upgrade your plan section.
To use the Entity Search feature, the Marengo 3.0 video understanding model must be enabled in your index.

Set up your first entity and entity collection

Create your first entity collection and add a person you want to identify in your videos:

From the sidebar, choose Entities.
Select the Create Entity Collection button.
Enter a name and description for your collection. Choose descriptive names that help you organize different groups of people.
Enter a name for your first entity (the person you want to identify).
Upload images that clearly show the person’s face. Multiple images from different angles and lighting conditions improve identification accuracy.
Select the Create button.

Add more entities to your collection

After creating your first collection, add additional entities:

On the Entities page, locate your collection.
Select the Add entity button for that collection.
Enter a name for the new entity.
(Optional) Add additional metadata as key and value pairs.
Upload at least five clear images of the entity. Multiple images from different angles and lighting conditions improve identification accuracy.
Select the Complete button.

Create additional entity collections

Organize different groups of people by creating separate collections:

From the sidebar, choose Entities.
Select the Create Entity Collection button.
Enter a name and description for your new collection.
Add your first entity following the steps above.

Manage your entity collections

Keep your collections organized and up-to-date.

To sort your collections:

Use the Sort by dropdown to arrange collections by creation date, last updated date, or name

To find specific collections:

Use the Filter box to search for collections by name

To modify a collection:

Locate the collection on the Entities page
Select the three dots menu next to the collection name
Choose Edit to modify details, Delete to delete the collection, or Copy identifier to retrieve the collection ID for programmatic use.

Search for entities in your videos

To search for specific entities, the Marengo 3.0 video understanding engine must be enabled in your index.

After setting up your entities, find specific people in your video content. When you perform a search request, add your entity to your search query using one of these methods:

Type @ followed by the name of the person you want to find
Select the Add Entity button and choose the person from the list
