# Assets

> A video or image file you upload to the platform, referenceable across multiple knowledge stores.

An asset is a video or image file that you upload to the platform. Each asset has a unique identifier that you can reference across multiple knowledge stores.

# Lifecycle

After upload, the platform processes the asset before you can use it:

| Status       | Meaning                                      |
| ------------ | -------------------------------------------- |
| `processing` | Upload received, processing in progress      |
| `ready`      | Available to add to a knowledge store        |
| `failed`     | Processing failed; check the error and retry |

An asset must reach the `ready` status before you can add it to a knowledge store.

# Reusability

Assets exist independently of knowledge stores. Once uploaded, you can add the same asset to multiple knowledge stores, for example, to analyze the same content with different ingestion configurations.
